Due to the popularity of our classes and the preparation time needed by the instructors, we request that you pre-register for classes online prior to the day of class to guarantee your spot.

Janine will lead students through your project where you will learn how to draw and paint creating depth and perspective. Learned techniques will aide you in creating varios subjects, such as landscapes, buildings. Figures and animals, etc. Through the use of learned skills your art pieces will draw the eye in and establish the story or narrative of your work. MAY 1 From 4:00PM to 7:00PM
Students will learn the rich history behind the encaustic medium from the fayum portraits discovered in Egyptian tombs to its versatile applications in contemporary art.
Students will then create their own encaustic paint medium with beeswax, resin and pigment as well as learning how to use the equipment. We will then go over the fundamentals of encaustic painting such as layering, fusing, inlays, creating texture and adding surface effects. Art boards for painting on, encaustic medium and other materials will be provided and students will have a unique encaustic painting by the end of the workshop.
Hazel Griffiths is a multidisciplinary artist working across digital and physical media, with a focus on encaustic painting which has been her primary medium for the last ten years. She uses mixed media elements and layers of wax to create textures and organic shapes to form atmospheric landscapes, treading the path between the real and the imagined. Hazel’s work is rooted in a fascination with environments, both constructed and remembered, which includes a creative detour into developing narrative-driven virtual reality spaces.

MAY 2, 9, 15, & 23 From 2:30PM to 5:00PM
This is a 4 week all levels class. Students will be guided through creating expressive landscapes using encaustic wax and mixed media. We will be using encaustic techniques such as inlays, photo transfer, layering and embedding leaves or images, whilst also incorporating various textures and materials such as fabric, paper, sand and found objects. Acrylics or watercolor will be used for under painting and for backgrounds. We will use photos as base references, students are welcome to bring their own as inspiration. We will capture the essence of the landscapes and turn them into our own imaginary worlds. Students are welcome and encouraged to bring objects and materials they’d like to incorporate into their paintings. Anything from found objects to fabrics or pressed flowers. Although all materials including 12” round art boards will be provided, if students would like to bring a particular painting/ drawing medium they’d like to use, they are welcome to do so.

This class is for Beginners, or those wishing to refresh! Learn different types of watercolor paper; various techniques, including wet on wet and wet on dry; brushes and paint choices. We will have fun trying these watercolor experiences, while not worrying we will "ruin" a painting. You will be ready, after class, to paint a picture in watercolor and understand what you will need.

May 7, 14, & 21 | From 1:00PM to 4:00PM
THIS 3 DAY WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP will allow the participant to bring their own picture (s) to paint. We will have fun developing the painting in 3 classes with various techniques and critiques. More than one painting may be worked on during these 4 classes! Each participant will provide ALL their own materials and picture or combination of pictures they wish to have as a completed painting. Jan will work with each to help develop their own particular skills and artistic approach. Participants needing supplies must contact Jan before class in order to determine needs and related costs.

MAY 8*, 15, 22, & 29 From 4:00PM to 6:30PM
4 part series This class is suitable for all levels. This 4 week class begins with mastering the fundamentals of painting with encaustics and learning how to use the equipment. Each week students will be guided through creating a unique seascape depicting the rich underwater environment of coral reefs to tranquil beach and sunset scenes, whilst incorporating the new techniques they’ve learned with an emphasis on vibrant color and texture that captures the beauty of the ocean. At the start of each weekly lesson they can either work on a new painting on a 12” round art board or choose to continue working on a more complex piece they’ve previously started. Techniques we will be covering are: layering, fusing, embedding printed or colored paper, various techniques for building up texture and dimension, encaustic inlay, photo transfer, carving and painting with wax.

In this 2 part workshop students will create a handmade journal using various mixed media and printing techniques. Journals can be used to express your inner creativity, thoughts, positive affirmations and project planning.

Learn how to incorporate Abstract techniques in the painting regardless of whether you want your completed painting to be Abstract, Impressionistic, or Realistic! Jan's MASTERS SERIES allows her to lead you through each Master painter to develop this specific painting with the Master in mind; but, using your particular colors and materials. This is not "copy" the painting"! The class teaches you techniques used in the painting and is meant as a study for the participant to learn and obtain skills to use in their own paintings. Although Jan is not an Art Historian, she has studied extensively in the arts and various techniques of the masters. Have fun hearing a little about the Master's techniques and his story. We will paint this in Acrylic and gold leaf. Suggested material list will be sent upon receipt of registration.

Create your own magical coral reef using encaustic techniques to build up beautiful dimensional surfaces and textures to recreate the underwater realm.
All materials provided, students will have a 12” round art board to paint on, although they are free to bring in their own substrate as long as it’s a solid surface (not canvas).

In this Beginners 3 hour class students will learn to paint with a vibrant color pallet using various mixed media techniques and materials. In a fun and festive atmosphere, you will create a textured 2 dimensional painting using pallet knives and modeling paste on an 11x14 canvas to take home and enjoy.
