$300.00
6 available

MAY 8*, 15, 22, & 29 From 4:00PM to 6:30PM

4 part series This class is suitable for all levels. This 4 week class begins with mastering the fundamentals of painting with encaustics and learning how to use the equipment. Each week students will be guided through creating a unique seascape depicting the rich underwater environment of coral reefs to tranquil beach and sunset scenes, whilst incorporating the new techniques they’ve learned with an emphasis on vibrant color and texture that captures the beauty of the ocean. At the start of each weekly lesson they can either work on a new painting on a 12” round art board or choose to continue working on a more complex piece they’ve previously started. Techniques we will be covering are: layering, fusing, embedding printed or colored paper, various techniques for building up texture and dimension, encaustic inlay, photo transfer, carving and painting with wax.

Hazel Griffiths am a multidisciplinary artist working across digital and physical media, with a primary focus on encaustic painting. She uses mixed media elements and layers of encaustic wax to create textures and organic shapes to form rich ocean-scapes and expressive landscapes inspired by the natural environments of both the English countryside and the subtropical realms of Florida.

$300 total for 4 days. $70 total for materials collected on first day.

*On Friday May 8th there is a reception so I’ve moved the class from its usual time to 2:30 - 5:00. The rest of the classes in the series are from 4:00 - 6:30

**Although all materials and equipment will be provided, students are free to bring their own art boards in whichever size they like as well as found objects or other materials they’d like to incorporate.
