Victoria DeRosa

Medium - Painter, Entrepreneur

My first public art teacher was in 2nd grade.  One of the first assignments I vividly remember was a lesson in seeing beyond lines and embracing imagination, or as she said, becoming limitless.

I was born in Boston Massachusetts and spent summers at my English mother's Canadian family lake house. There she introduced me to watercolor painting, gave me my first watercolor set, and soon I was painting the lake, trees, wildlife…stuffed rabbit.

My Bostonian dad, in my younger years, looked at my scribbles of crayon one hot summer morning hanging out in our walk-around attic and showed me how to color with a smooth gradient, and for the love of god - in one direction.

I attended Suffolk University in Boston and Bond University in Australia to become an entrepreneur. Still, I always found myself drawn to art and art history so I sat in on as many art classes as possible.

As I exited university with a signature and diploma, I did not find myself a career that suited my soul. So I worked, saved, and traveled as much as I could. I spent a year on a tiny island off the coast of Belize, painting, reading, swimming, and examining all its creatures and flowers, a wonderful inspiration for my artwork.

I find that making art is a self-expression that cleanses the soul. It is a place where the brain can work it all out. Inspired by nature, intellectual conversations, books, and dreams are where creation arrives.
