Pete Steenland holds his sixth exhibit with the Studios of Cocoa Beach this month. He is now happy to be a Brevard County resident for two years. His work is typically defined by a love of nature, with an acute appreciation for the intricacy within all living things. Since his early childhood, he has been inspired by nature’s intense beauty even in the smallest plants including weeds and marine diatoms, on into the magnificence of the greatest of subjects… but it’s not All about Biology. It’s Art.
Pete holds an AA degree in Art and Biology, and a BA from the University of West Florida in Studio Art with an emphasis in Marine Sciences with a special focus on Scientific Illustration of marine and aquatic organisms. In addition to Pete’s educational background, he spent thirty-two years working on the seas as a licensed Merchant Marine Captain and as a Master of Vessels up to 3000 gross tons for Freight and Towing.
This exhibit includes the newest original, In the Garden Depths, of some Florida Native flora and fauna, and other originals and giclées -- emphasizing a degree of abstraction in his aesthetically realistic style, a process that continues to evolve and is evident in his past works. He most often creates large images and uses any combination of watercolor, gesso, oils, acrylics, Conte-crayon, India ink, and any other unexpected media at hand.
To help manage his art business, Donna Janell Steenland, Pete’s wife, plays a major role. The two“share in a unified fellowship of Art” dedicating their energies to reflecting the beautiful aspects of this world.

The Studios of Cocoa Beach is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization, solely dependent on our artists and volunteers who help operate and maintain the studio so that we may sell art.
The Studios is located at 165 Minutemen Causeway, next to Heidi’s Jazz Club (our original location since 2016).

The Studios is an artist run gallery of approximately thirty+ local artists and includes paintings, art photography, fused glass, ceramics, woodworks, jewelry, palm art, surfboard fin art, cards and reproductions.
